Today is an exciting day for us! After living in our house for the past 3 years, we're FINALLY painting the exterior. This is a case of the time worn story, "The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes" because A) we own and operate Stephens Painting and Gutters in The Woodlands, TX and B) as an interior designer, having the ugliest house on the street is just plain unacceptable as well as completely mortifying. That's just how it goes, right? Being too busy to work on your own home is a good problem to have (at least, that's what I've told myself every time I pull into my driveway lol). But NO LONGER! Things, they are a changin' and with the changing of our hideous house color also comes the opportunity to do something fun with our front door. So while I was searching for inspiration, I thought I'd take you along on my front door color journey.
First off, can we all just take a moment to thank Elizabeth Arden for bringing her famous Red Door into the mainstream? You just can't go wrong with red as a strong energy color that immediately welcomes you in.
I think this green is pretty fabulous too and this was a strong contender for my own front door
This blue is pretty eye catching too!
This was another strong consideration...
And then I went off the rails a little bit and forgot that I was married...to a man...and found myself dreaming of this
and then this...
"OMG, Babe! Isn't this so cute?? NO???" I didn't even bother with that conversation. For you single girls or boys who are allowed your pastels, please, let me live vicariously through you!
So getting back on track...still in my pastel dream meets Dutch door fantasy...
We have a neighbor down the street who has something similar to this and it turns my head every time I walk by
Getting closer to reality ....
Ultimately though, I've come to the realization that I'm a black and white kind of girl. We've already painted all of our interior doors black and I'm in love with the look. I think I should just carry it through. Black is so chic and classic and is a perfect backdrop to a fabulous wreath for the holidays
So give me your thoughts. Which is your favorite and what other suggestions would you make?
I'll post pictures of the finished product when it's done. Until then, leave me a comment on which one you'd choose!
