The last time you painted your home, how much thought did you give the to ceiling color? Most of us just go with a standard white, Swiss Coffee or Creamy White. I’ll be the first to admit that our ceilings are basic builder white. But thanks to a recent hot water heater incident, which is moronically located in the attic above our living room (who’s the genius that thought THAT was a good idea???), we’ve got a ceiling repair project in our near future and it’s got me seriously pondering what we can do to it to make it something unique and add to the rest the recently upgraded space. So in true SP&G fashion, I’m sharing my favorites with you and I hope you’ll weigh in on which is your favorite.
Let’s start with the fun stuff first! Heavily saturated, bright and bold~
I especially love this for a kid space but if it’s done right, it can look amazing in any space~
See what I mean?
There are a few reason this works from a design perspective –
- Notice there’s almost always crown molding or a defined architectural break from the walls to the ceiling.
- The paint color on the walls is always lighter preventing the light from being sucked out of the space and creating a strong juxtaposition from wall to ceiling. This makes the ceiling the star of the room.
I’m also really loving the softer pastel colors. This is probably a little more “us”
How sweet for little girls…
And of course, if you’re feeling extra fancy, you’ll LOVE the way a good metallic finish looks on a ceiling with a really awesome light fixture and the reflection it gives off
So really, when it comes to using your ceiling as a focal point, the sky’s the limit (see what I did there?) What do you think? Could you? Have you? What did you do?
